20mm, University of Alabama Cadet Corps button with 1850's  "Scovill Mg Co./Superfine" rmdc backmark.  This very button is pictured (front and back) in the center of the button grouping at the top, left hand corner of p. 298 of The Hammond Civil War Collection. This book by Mike O'Donnell and Howard Crouch documents a portion of the amazing collection of R. M. Hammond. This button has a broad, shallow push.  It is a very scarce, pre-war example of the Alabama Cadet Corps button and was the nicest early example that Richard M. Hammond  encountered for his collection.
