23mm, Confederate local made, North Carolina coat button with diggers tag from the date it was excavated, no shank.
 
Confederate made buttons were crudely manufactured during the Civil War. These sort rarely retain their shanks due to the weakness of the flux used.  It was found in North Carolina.
