23mm, Post Civil War/Indian Wars/Spanish-American War era Infantry Coat button with a "George Evans / Phil" backmark. This is a nice example of a Post War eagle "I" with recessed shield and a scarce and seldom encountered backmark.  It is actually much rarer than the typical Civil War recessed eagle "I"  as most later examples are made with the raised shield and letter.
