20mm, pewter coat button made for a member of an United States Infantry Regiment. The regimental number is unclear and may have been intentionally removed during usage by a member of a different numbered regiment to whom it was issued (speculative, but quite plausible). The shank on this one has been restored. These buttons were manufactured 1798 to 1802 and are still found at some War of 1812 sites. The pewter on this one is "rock solid."
