Union News Company coat button with a wartime "*&* Steele *&*/Johnson" backmark. This is the first one of these buttons (either in dug or nondug condition) that I have seen. It was found at the RR Depot that was the staging area for the Union Army prior to the Battle of North Anna. A quick Google search would suggest a post war date of establishment, but a 1940's matchbook for sale on Ebay (picture attached) shows it to have been established in 1864. I think this one is a "sleeper" but, given that it has some rim damage, I have priced it accordingly.
