25.5mm, Rare Confederate Army Officer coat size button.  This is a truly rare design and while flattened, it retains enough gilt to highlight the features and displays quite well.  This may be the plate example in Albert's book.  It is absolutely pictured as a part of plate (2.) in the Hammond Civil War Collection book, being documented as part of the Richard M. Hammond Collection. There are some old stress cracks on the rim (visible in the picture at 12:00 and 5:00 that likely occurred when the button was stepped on) but it is very sound and strong and presents well.  It is a rare one!
