Civil War Bullet in Wood.
This item comes from the fighting of the North Anna Battlefield. The piece was fired during combat, missed its target, and became embedded in a pine tree.
It is just over 6 inches long and is a 1 -1/2 by 1-inch-thick piece of Virginia heart pine. This interesting piece is from a long-time relic hunter, and these are seldom found nowadays. He was most actively digging in the 1960's and 70's. It has been out of the ground for 50 years or more.
The clearly articulated Civil War bullet is mushroomed from impact and perfectly encapsulated, being as nice as they can be found. This is such a fine-looking piece that I am tempted to hold on to it, rather than offering it for sale. It fits together and comes apart perfectly like puzzle pieces.
It is an ideal size for an office desk or display and it is going to be hard to find a better one.
