We've redesigned the site with collectors in mind—to make browsing and purchasing easier and more enjoyable. Here are a few tips on how to get the most out of the new CivilWarButtons.com shopping experience. In this article, we'll cover:

  1. Catalog Navigation: How to explore by category, filters, and search

  2. Checkout Process: How to add items to your cart and complete your purchase

  3. Additional Support: How to get in touch with us

Catalog Navigation

SALES CATEGORIES

When visiting CivilWarButtons.com, you can view the full catalog or use categories to zero in on your area of interest. Note: Some buttons fit into more than one category, so you may see intentional crossover.

  • Civil War Era Buttons – Uniform, political, and patriotic buttons produced between the 1830s–1865

  • Revolutionary & Pre-Civil War Buttons – Buttons produced prior to the 1840s

  • Post-Civil War Buttons – Buttons produced after 1865

  • Sporting & Civilian Buttons – All non-military buttons

  • Relics & Memorabilia – Civil War-era artifacts, relics, and collector items other than buttons

  • Reference Guides & Books – Helpful literature for collectors and enthusiasts

You can access these categories from the homepage or by hovering over “Shop” in the top menu.

FILTERING CATALOG ITEMS

Filters are like Subcategories and are a great way to narrow your search—whether you're browsing the entire catalog or a specific category. Here's are the filters you can use in addition to categories:

  • Confederate Government Buttons – For Confederate government and military personnel

  • Federal Government Buttons – For U.S. departments and military personnel

  • Northern State Buttons – For state militias and local officials from the North

  • Southern State Buttons – For Southern militias and government officials

  • School & Academy Buttons – For military academies and institutions

  • Political & Patriotic Buttons – Campaign buttons and those with patriotic themes

  • Price – Set a budget range to filter listings.

  • Dug – Excavated from the ground or water

  • Non-Dug – Heirloom piece or preserved above ground

If you're viewing the site on a PC, the filters can be found in the bottom left corner of the sales catalog. Mobile visitors will see a "Filter & Sort" button at the top right corner of the sales catalog pages.

SORTING CATALOG ITEMS

By default, items are sorted by Newest to Oldest, but you can also sort by Price (Low to High or High to Low) or by Name (A to Z or Z to A).

The sorting options can be found in the top right corner of the Sales Catalog pages in the standard and mobile layouts.

CATALOG SEARCH

The search bar is located at the top of every page. It's ideal for finding items by name, backmark, or keyword.

Keep in mind that our search returns only exact or partial matches. For example, searching "buckle" will return results that include only the word buckle (you will not see any listed as "belt plates," so in some cases a more global category search would be more comprehensive.

If you search "belt buckle," you'll see items with either belt or buckle in the title or description (but, would not see any "breast plates"). Try different combinations to maximize results!

Checkout Process

ADDING ITEMS TO SHOPPING CART
